Two cheap shampoos for dry hair, natural hair, relaxed hair.

 March 4th, 2017
Hello readers, I started my hair journey in 2010; first with my relaxed hair and then with my natural hair. Overall it has been successful. Like many other people I started my hair journey by buying many products; but I quickly found out two shampoos which have been working well for me those past years and I am going to tell you all about it here.

My review: l'huile Leonor Greyl and Shampooing crème moelle de Bambou

Hello readers, several months ago I decided to try the high end French hair brand Leonor Greyl. Because those products are very expensive I decided to buy deluxe samples to give it a try. Leonor Greyl has many lines of hair products but I decided to focus my choice on 3 products that target dry hair as my hair is naturally very dry. In this post I will first focus on the oil by Leonor Grey and the bamboo shampoo by Leonor Greyl.

My review: Macadamia professional nourishing moisture hair masque

 February 14th, 2016
Hello readers today I want to review the Macadamia professional nourishing moisture masque for medium to coarse hair. I bought 2 samples trials last summer and finally tried this mask several months ago. The brand states that this masque is color safe and it should reconstruct, revitalize and repair the hair thanks to its oils blend of macadamia and argan oil. Both oils are the 7th and 8th ingredient in the list.

My review: on the Superfruit Complex hair masque by Shea Moisture.

 November 11th, 2016
Hello readers today I want to review the Superfruit Complex hair masque from the line 10-in-1 renewal system by the brand Shea Moisture who uses a lot of natural ingredients in their hair products.
This American brand has been very successful in the United States for several years already and their products have been available in Europe for a couple of years now. Like most of my hair products I bought this one in the UK as they have the best price in Europe. This hair masque comes in a jar of 12oz/340g; so there is a good amount of product and a little amount goes a long way.
The texture of the Superfruit Complex hair masque is creamy; not too thick not too liquid. It is easy too apply on my hair, it does smooth and detangle my hair well. I use it under a heat cap for 15-20 minutes like all my masks. When I am done, my hair is well conditioned and supple, but not greassy. This product also has a strong sweet smell which I enjoy.
To sum up I have nothing bad to say about this Superfruit Complex hair masque. It does exactly what we expect from a good hair mask for dry  to very dry hair. Do not hesitate to buy it if you have the chance.

My review on the Moroccanoil Intense hydrating mask.

 November 29th, 2015
Hello readers today I am doing a review on the Moroccanoil intense hydrating mask for dry to very dry hair. I have known this brand for a while and I have always wanted to try their hydrating mask but the very high price (€34/250ml $35 or £25 for8.5oz) always prevented me from buying it. This past summer, while I was on vacation in Canada I came accross a store that was selling this brand and this store also sold deluxe sample. The price was still kind of expensif  but still more affordable.
A couple months ago I decided to finally try this mask and my results are the following.
1-This product has a strong smell that I like.
2-Morrocanoil is known to have argan oil in its hair products so I love the fact that argan oil is the 3rd ingredient in the list
3- I love the fact that you don't need to use a lot of product to cover your hair. A little bit goes a long way.
4-The mask has a white creamy texture that is very easy to apply on the hair.
5-I use this mask like all my masks. I let it sit on my hair for 15 minutes, with heat. The result was super hydrated hair (not greassy), with great elasticity, that is easy to detangle.
6-For those who don't like silicone in their hair products, be aware that dimethicone is the 5th ingredient on the list.

To sum up I love this mask, because it does exactely what it states. Now is it worth spending so much money ? Well it all depends on your budget... You will not be disapointed if you buy it but that won't be the end of the world if you don't! Warning! This mask is for dry to very dry hair with medium to thick density.

Will I buy it again ?
Yes I could buy this mask again , but because of the price it is not a mask that I would repurchase on a regular basis.

Have you ever tried this mask?

How I blow-dry my kinky dry natural hair.

 October 15th,2015
lire en françcis ici
Hello readers, a few weeks ago I decided to blow dry my hair for the first time since I cut it last year. I had never blown dry my natural hair before although I had kept my hair natural for many many years in the past. Although my hair is short blow-drying my hair was a long process and here is why.
The best way to damage your hair when you use heat is to use heat on damaged and /or ditry hair. My hair is very healthy since I cut it, but it is naturally very dry and kinky. So before I blow dry my hair I need to make sure it is super moisturized, conditioned and strong. Because my hair is also kinky and shrinks a lot I also need to use a great mask to give maximum  manageability and elasticity to my hair so it won't break off during the process.

STEP 1- PREEPOO

A preepoo is a healthy step we use before shampooing the hair to give EXTRA care to the hair starnds. Here I used the Indian oil to strenghten my hair. I applied it on my scalp and massaged it in (read ful review here). On my hair strands I use the Ojon balm to give extra moisture to my hair (read full review here) and I kept those oils for several hours. You can also use coconut oil or a mix of different oils.

STEP 2-SHAMPOO
I used one of my favorite shampoo which cleans my har without drying it out. This shampoo also detangles my hair so it helps this entire process to go quicker.

STEP 3- DEEP CONDITIONER
To deep condition my hair I used one of my favorite mask the klorane mask with abyssinia oil (read full review here) which I mixed with olive oil and honey as I always do with this mask. I put a plastic bag around my hair and use my blow-dryer to heat the all thing for 30 min. Using heat help hair masks to be more efficient.

STEP 4- LEAVE-IN + HEAT PROTECTANT
After rinsing my hair with cold water to seal in the moisture I used a leave-in and a heat protectant from the same brand for the first time. The main rason I bought those is that there is no Alcohol Denat in it unlike most heat protectant. I know that alcohol Denat can be very drying and irritated on my combination skin so I can't imagine the damages on my dry hair. Also there is only good reviews on the Internet. It was the first time I used it but so far so good.

STEP 5-BLOW-DRYING

I applied a little bit of argan oil first and to blow-dry my hair with the new Tangle Teezer blow-styling hairbrush for the first time (full review here). As I was not used to use that brush I had to sometimes alternate with a paddle brush or the Denman straightening brush. I need to practice more with those last two, before I can make a full review on those as well.
This is a long process but for me healthy hair and well moisturized hair is the key to keep our hair healthy when we apply heat to it. Do not expect any miracle by using a heat protectant only on damaged dirty, dry or kinky hair that lacks managebility. This process was long but in the end my hair felt very healthy and soft.
Now I would love to know what is your blow-drying process ?

My review on Ojon restorative hair treatment plus from the damage reverse line

 September 20th ,2015
Hello readers, today I am doing a review on "Ojon restorative hair treatment plus" from the Ojon's line "damage reverse". I bought this deluxe sample product months ago in a Boot's store in London and I have used it several time since. This is a pre-poo product for damaged hair. What is a preepoo product some of you might ask ? Well it is a treatment that you use on your hair before the shampoo.
This product is a blend of many oils: palm oil and castor oil being the first ones. It has a very natural/hearthy smell that some may not like but it does not bother me. It claims to deeply treat and restore damaged hair. It should help increase hair's strength against breakage. Hair should be soft, silky and manageable. My hair is not damaged but it is naturally very dry so it works as well. The instruction advice us to apply the product on dry hair. We should warm the product into the palm of our hands until the balm transforms into an oil and distribute it evenly throughout the hair and scalp until hair is fully saturated. Then we should comb through and allow to penetrate for 20 minutes before rinsing and shampooing.

This is exactly how I use it except that I don't comb my kinky hair with it because I only comb my hair when it is damped. Also I may let it seat on my hair more than 20 minutes under a heated cap, but never less than that. I then shampoo my hair and follow by a regular deep conditioner or not as this prepoo already works as treatment/deep conditioner itself.
MY RESULTS
My results are exactly what the brand claims, softer, stronger, more manageable hair; that's why I don't always feel the need to add an other step in my shampoo routine. It is simply a great product. You can also do a homemade prepoo with coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil etc... And  honestly I get better results with this product and the process is less messy as the product presents itself as a balm.

SHOULD YOU BUY IT ?
It is an Ojon product so the price is quite high (£34.5 /$33 for 3.1oz /100ml) but you don't need a lot of product for each application. Now, this is not a product that you absolutely need but it is a great addition to your hair routine if you can afford it and your hair will tell you: - "Thank you sis !"

My review on Ojon rare blend deep conditioner on my very dry/kinky/afro textured hair

 August 19th, 2015
lire en français ici
Hello readers today I am reviewing Ojon "rare blend deep conditioner" that I have been using for a little bit more than a year now.
My hair was relaxed for a few years until last May 2014 when I decided to cut it super short.
Since then I am letting my hair grow out naturally. My hair is naturally very dry, kinky, thick with thick strands. Right now I don't use any type of chemical on my hair.
I got free samples of this product thanks to a nice representative of the brand that I met in a Boots store. I was attracted by it because this deep contidioner claims to nourish and repair as it hydrates, soften and boots shine for very dry or damaged hair.

THE PRODUCT
This deep conditioner comes in a simple but nice yellow tube. The smell is very earthy and I like it. The product comes out very easily so I don't have any problem with the packaging. The brand claims that it is a dual phase product: one phase is made with restorative oils and the second phase is a nourishing conditioner. You can clearly see both phases when the product comes out as it is made with two distinct colors. The product is very creamy, not too thick not too liquidy just perfect. You don't need to use a lot as the product as it is very easy to apply and distribute on the hair. To maximise the effect of my deep conditioners I always cover my hair with a heated cap and warm the all thing with my blow dryer for 10 minutes minimum.
When it is time to rinse out I notice that most of the product get absorbs into my hair. The final result is super soft, hydrated (not greassy) and easily to detangle hair. My hair stays soft for days after I use this deep conditioner. I also get great results if I just let it seat for a few minutes.

Will I repurchase this product ?
Despite the high price £30/$34 for 150ml/5 fl.oz I have already repurchased this product seveal times because it is just amazing; it does everthing that it claims and my hair loves it. For now my hair is short so I don't need to use that much but as my hair gets longer.the price might become an issue...

I want Indian's women hair: My review on the Poshak oil by Ayush (2/2)

 March 31th 2015
lire en français ici
Please first, read part one of this article HEREif you have not done so already.
I have heard a lot about the benefits of Indian hair oils for a while now but I had never tried it for the simple reason that I was already using oils that I love.

When my colleague Ramya introduced me to that particular oil she was clear; it will not make my hair grow 10 inches overnight. After 5 years of usage what she has noticed with her hair is that it became stronger, more nourished, thicker and more supple. The ends are less dry and her hair break less; as a consequence it seems like it is growing faster. While I am writting this post, I have been using it on my scalp for 3 months. I apply the oil 2 to 4 times a week as it is not recommended to use it every single day. After application I massage a little bit.

I can only give you a first update for 1 month and a half of usage because while I am wrtting this post I have had braids in for several weeks so I can’t honestly talk about the status of my hair right now. Although my strand of hair is thick, my hair is overall naturally very fragile. To tell you the truth I am scared for real when someone approaches my hair with a small comb.
What are my results ?/Is it miraculous oil?
No it is not miraculous; if you mishandle your hair do not expect much from this oil. I have to mention here that I take extremely good care for my hair in the first place (read HERE) as well as Indian women (see HERE). Oils are only the cherry on top of the cake.

PROS
1/This oil is very very liquidy, she gets absorbed quickly and does not leave any oily look on your forehead. 2/Furthermore it is an Ayurvedic oil, meaning it uses ingredients and a formula that is used in traditonal Indian's medecine, as a consequence my hair feels stonger and well nourished. 3/I love the simple packaging of this small bottle as it is easy handed and gives the perfect amount of product. 4/My hair routine has not changed, the only difference is that  now I also use this oil all other my scalp. 5/Last but not least, my hair has never felt stronger.
CONS
So far I have not seen any difference on the growth of my thin edges or my hair in general. I bought this oil in India in a small Chennai Ayruveda center from the same brand for cheap. I have started to look at the price online on International shipping website and the price is a LITTLE BIT different so that is why I stocked up.

The ingredient list does not seem 100% complete on the bottle. I guess that it is not mandatory in India but from what is written on the bottle, the main active ingredients are: Rosemary oil, neem oil, Amla oil Sesame oil. To sum up, I love this oil and I will keep you posted on my progress in a few months...Thank you for reading.

I want Indian women hair: What is their secret ??? (Part1/2)

 February 17th 2015
lire en français ici
Hello readers; first of all do not take this title at first value, I know pretty clear that my kinky hair will never turn into Indian women hair. What I want to say with this title is that I want for my hair to be as healthy and strong. If you follow me on this blog, Instagram or Facebook; you already know that I have spent those recent months working between France and India. As I am passionate about beauty and cosmetics or should I say addict, I spend some of my limited free time investigating on Indian beauty secrets.

Right now I am based in South India in Chennai (find more HERE), where women are known to have the most beautiful hair: very long, very healthy and very thick from roots to ends. And from what I have seen after 3 months of being here I can only agree. I don't seem to be the only one who agrees on that as Chennai’s temples are the ones who supply the natural hair extension industry the most.
I have developed a great relationship with one of my Indian co-worker here so of course I had to ask her questions about Indian hair beauty secrets. Despite genetics which of course always plays a part she insisted on the fact that it is in the culture here to take really good hair of your hair. It starts by avoiding doing things that could damage it.
-minimum to no hair dryer
               - minimum to no straightening iron
- minimum to no coloration
        - minimum to no tight hair style
        - minimum to no drying product
                                             - no excessive shampooing etc…
Furthermore most young girls here wear their hair in two folded ponytails for school. You can see them all around the city. This hair style avoids frictions between hair and clothes and it minimizes unnecessary manipulation. I have read the same type of advice on black hair care forums and blogs those past years and it did benefit my hair a lot. So there is no big secret; you need to take care of it.
Despite those tips I have noticed that many brands here sale their Ayurvedic hair oil to embellish, strengthen and thicken hair. I love oils, I have talked about it several times on this blog as I use it for my nails, skin and hair especially. I have tried many oils but never Indian oils or powder although I heard a lot good things about it such as Amla oil, Neem oil or Shikakai powder. As my co-worker Ramya noticed that I was really interested on that topic she introduced me to one Ayurvedic oil that she has been using for 5 years with success. I have been using it for a little bit more that 2 months now, so it is time for me to give you my first review on it... (to be continued)

My review: Klorane mask with abyssinia oil - for dehydrated and dry/very dry hair-

 July 14th; 2014
lire en français ici
Hello; today I want to do a review of a product I have been using a lot for the past 4 years so I can honestly say that it is so far my favorite in its category which is: hair mask for dry to very dry hair.
Klorane is a French brand that uses it sciences of plants to create hair and skin care products. In France it is mainly sold in French pharmacies but I am sure you can also find it on the Internet. I discovered this particular product randomly one day as I was spending some time in a French pharmacy. What got my attention at first was what is written on the container: for kinky, frizzy, relaxed, dry hair. I was pleased that a well known French brand had finaly acknowledged African type hair. The marketing plan is to get the attention of the Black market but this product should work on anyone with dry to very dry hair of course.
Despite the price for the quantity you get (14€/5oz or 150ml) I decided to give it a try and bought it with 3 other products from the same line ² I am not going to talk about those here because they don’t have that much of an interest to me.

The first time I used this product I realized that the consistency is very thick so although it is not difficult to apply on the hair it does not distribute easily throughout your all head so you have to use a lot of product in my opinion. I almost finished the full container in one application only so I was upset, but I went to sleep with the mask and a heated cap on top. When I woke up the next morning I realized that I had forgotten to stop the heat in my bedroom (yes this is animportant information for this review).
First I realized that the mask had sinked in well into my hair shaft, I went ahead and rinsed my hair, quickly towel dried and when it was time to detangle my hair I realized that my hair had never ever been so soft and so easy to detangle. This feeling lasting for 2 weeks. I usually need to moisturize my hair a few times a week. Well the first week I did not need to do anything as my hair felt very moisturized and soft; the second week I moisturized my hair a few times but it still felt moisturized and soft. The second time I used it I did the exact process but the next morning nothing special happened !!!!!  At first I did not understand until I remembered that I had slept with the heat on. SO the 3rd time I used this product I left it on my hair for 20 min with heat. I just heat the cap with a blow dryer as I do not have a professional heat cask and I got the same amazing results I got the first time. Since then I have been following that same process every time I use this mask. Conclusion: you will get better results if you use heat with it.
-Who should buy this product?
Anyone who has dry to very dry hair. It has a very thick consistency so I think that those with thick hair strands will enjoy it the most.
-The bad: This product is expensive for the quantity that you get (14€/5oz or 150ml) so if you enjoy cheap products pass your way
-The good: It works. It works so well: it detangles, moisturizes and softens the hair much better that any other masks I have used so far and trust me I have used a lot. The results are long lasting.
-Will I repurchase?
Definitely yes; and you can see on the first picture that it is a product that I repurchase often. I have been using it for four years and I do not plan to stop. It worked on my long dry straight relaxed hair and it is still working on my now short kinky natural hair. I don’t use it all the time as it is expensive; I also have other good moisturizing masks so I use it in rotation but this one is by far the best for me, so as long as it exists I will continue to use it.

My quick tip:
As this mask is very thick I sometimes mix it with olive oil.

If you have ever tried this mask let me know your thoughts ?

I need something to change: time to cut it all off !

 May 24th; 2014
lire en français ici
Hello readers as you can already guess by the title and the pictures, I cut all my hair off. To explain you the how and the why and to make it easier for you to read this post, I decided to write this one under the form of a Q & A.
When did you cut your hair?
I cut my hair myself 2 weeks ago already, after shampooing and deep conditioning it. When it was time for me to detangle it I felt the urge to cut everything off and that’s what I did.
What was your hair length before the cut ?
My hair was past arm pit length (APL) and it was chemically straightened (relaxed/ textlaxed) (see here).
Why short hair?
I have been thinking of cutting my hair as short as Halle Berry's for more than 10 years already because I think it looks nice, modern and I like to change my look.
How long have you been seriously thinking about cutting your hair?
I have been on a healthy hair journey since 2010 and I was very proud of my efforts, progress and results but it was becoming a little bit boring. I had been thinking about it on and off for more than a year and that day I just felt the urge to do it.
What finally pushed you to cut it?
N°1-I always thought that in order to work short hair nicely it was important to know how to do makeup and to have a nice skin. I am finally there so I had no more excuses not to do it.
N°2-In a past post I briefly talked about the fact that I had faced health issues that caused my hair to shed a lot (see here). People who don’t know me can’t see that because it is not obvious but my hair is normally thick and I love thickness. First I had decided to maintain my hair at its length until it returns all thick again but then I realized that it was a perfect timing to finally cut it.
Is it a «big chop»? (discover/keep your hair natural)
Not at all, I know my natural kinky hair so there is no discovery for me. My hair is natural now but I may decide to relax it again in one or two years. Who knows? That’s not a big deal for me. The big discovery and change for me is to have my hair that short.
Any regrets ?
I thougth I would quickly have some regrets but not at all. I am still very happy with my decision but as I said above, overall I had been thinking about it for more than 10 years already so I was definitely ready for this change.
Do you plan on keeping it short?
No. I have always wanted to see myself with short hair and now that it is done I am going to let it grow back while enjoying each length.
What did you entourage say to you ?
1-Oh my god you cut everything ! Why did you do that ! You’re crazy !
2-It suits you well !
I took the above pictures the day of the cut, that is why I have no makeup and no hair products on. A few days later I did another mini cut to even out everything but you’ll find out the final result on a next post…

Me and my dry hair: wash day routine + explanations

 March 28th; 2014
Hello, before I get started I think it is necessary to explain what type of hair I have. Naturally I have kinky, coarse, and very thick hair that I relax with a chemical relaxer every 6 months. I don’t relax my hair to the point it becomes bone straight but I leave some texture to it. I very rarely use heat tools (flat irons, curling irons, etc …) My hair has always been very dry even when I kept it natural (no chemical). Those past years I have lost a lot of volume due to some health issues but my hair strand is still coarse. Because I have very dry hair I really don’t need to wash my hair too often; that’s why I wash it once a week.
Step 1: finger detangling
My hair tangles a lot so I have to detangle it before each shampoo. I don't like to use a comb on my dry hair that's why I use my fingers. I apply a small amount of a light oil (grape seed oil or olive oil) on my hands to give me more slip.
Step 2: preepoo
Before each shampoo I like to do a prepoo with oils overnight or for a few hours. For anyone who has dry hair it is a good step to retain as much moisture as possible during this process. It also gives my hair amazing shine. I apply the oils from roots to tips, wrap my hair with a plastic wrap and add a heated cap on top.  If your hair is not that dry you may focus on the ends only because it is the oldest part of our hair, so it is also the weakest and the driest part. Most of the time I use coconut oil but sometimes I also use olive oil or grape seed oil or a mix.
Step 3: shampoo
Because I have dry hair I use moisturizing shampoos that are designed for very dry hair. As I said my hair also tangles a lot so I am always looking for good detangling shampoos. Those 2 shampoos (picture above) are my favorite ones because they are just amazing on those both issues I have. Bashing on every single shampoos that contain sulfate has become a new trend lately. The first shampoo (Keracare) does not contain sulfate but the second one (Creme of Nature) does, and I have absolutely no problem with it; it cleans perfectly and it is not drying at all.
Step 4-Week 1:moisturizing deep conditioner (Keracare humecto...)
Once again because I have dry hair I always deep condition after each shampoo. I apply the deep conditioner, wrap my hair with a plastic wrap add a heated cap on top and warm the all thing with my hair dryer for 15 to 30 min. If you have a professional hood hair dryer that's even better. Sometimes I like to add oils or honey in my deep conditioner to enhance its efficacy. This conditioner is not my all time favorite but it is good enough. My favorite conditioner is more expensive that’s why I don’t use it weekly on regular wash days.
Week 2: protein conditioner
A protein conditioner is good especially for anyone who has weak or damaged hair. You should aslo definetly give it a try if you use chemical treatments or if you use heat tools a lot. But be carrefull with it as some hair do not like proteins at all (protein sensitive). So you have to find out by yourself if your hair likes or not and how often you can use it. The aphogee 2 min reconstructor is my favorite so I always use this one. I leave it on for 10 min then rinse.
Step 5: leave-in conditioner
I apply it on damped hair; it helps to detangle hair and retain all the moisture you’ve just put into your hair. It is also a good way to minimize frizz while your hair is drying.
Step 6:
When my hair is slightly damped I finally throughly detangle with a comb.

***My Bonus tips for very dry hair***
1-Just after I have applied my leave-in I love to apply a small amount of olive oil. I have realized that it helps to combat frizz better. It is also a good plus for moisture.
2-When my hair is almost fully dry I mix some argan oil with a small amount of shea  butter and apply the mix on my hair. I like to focus on the ends. Argan oil is a very light oil that will not weight your hair down even if if you have fine hair. Using shea butter is good especially for coarser hair that may have more problems to retain moister. A little goes a long way so a very small amount is enough and it will not make your hair looks greasy;

This is the process on my regular wash days; it may seems a lot when you read it but it actually goes pretty fast when you're used to do it. This full process is helping me keeping my naturally very dry hair soft and well moisturized throughout the week.

Do not hesitate to leave any questions below !

Chic hair style: Side french braid with extensions

 February 12th; 2014
Hello, today I want to share a nice hair style that I have been working on lately. It is a long side french braid with extensions that is perfect for any occasion where you have to be chic.

First of all if your hair is naturally very long and thick you absolutely don't need to add extensions and this style is going to be much more easier for you. A side french braid is not more difficult to do than a regular french braid. The only difference here is that you need to pull the hair from one side to an other before you add new rows to your french braid. Here I had to pull all my hair from the left side of my head to the right side.                                                    The difficulty for me here was to add the extensions. I had done this style before but I was never satisfied. I used to add the extensions at the end of the french braid, into the regular braid. The result was not good because it was not looking natural enough, it would easily unravel and you could see exactly where I had added the extensions. When I was adding less extensions the final braid was looking way too thin than my liking. So after several trials and errors I finally found the right technique.                                           While I braid my french braid I add a portion of my extensions bended in two at several levels under my hair, then I braid everything together. I added the extension at 2 different levels in the french braid and one more time at the beginning of the regular braid. I hope I am clear enough. To sum up I just try to allocate the exensions evenly into the braid, that way it is big enough and it also looks natural.

For this look I used very basic and cheap hair extensions that you can easily find in any Afro-Caribbean hair store. I used two colors; a 1b (black) and a 2 (off black) to mimic mine. I used 2 packs of synthetic extensions for less than £1 per pack. The texture of the exensions is very similar to mine so it blended perfectly I can't even see myself where exactly is my own hair, and where are the extensions..
Hope you enjoy this look !
